MARKET REPORT.
PIGS, POULTRY AND PRODUCE
The Dominion Auctioneering Co., Palmerston North, report having conducted the usual market sale yesterday; Poultry was in exceptional demand and a large yarding was cleared at prices considerably in favour'of vendors; it was doubtful whether any higher prices have been paid for table fowls during the past three years. A medium entry of pigs came forward and a great sale resulted in a total clearance with a demand still unsatisfied. Good weaners were very keenly sought after, one choice of fruit offering lias fallen off somewhat, of frufc offering has fallen off somewhat, hut a good demand prevails for best quality, lines. Vegetables wore in the usual supply, with the exception of cauliflowers, which again arc commanding a good price. We quote as follows: — Poultry.—Heavy cockerels, from 9s 6d lo 11s per pair; light cockerels, from 8s to 9s per pair; fat roosters, from 8s to 9s per pair; light roosters, from 7s 6d to 8s per' per pair; best, W.L. liens, from 8s to 10s pair; Black Orpington hens, from 9s to 10s per pair; light hens, from 7s 6d to 8s per pair; ducks, from 6s 6d to 8s per pair; drakes, from 6s 6d to 10s per pair; turkey hens, 7s each; yearling liens, to 4s lid each.
Pigs.—Small weaners. 23s to 24s 6d each; host weaners, to 28u 6d each; slips, to 32s each; stores to 38s each; sow and litter, £lO 10s.
Fruit.-—Pears, Winter Coles, 8s to 11s per 4 case;. cooking pears, from 6s to 8s 6d per 4 case. Apples: Delicious, from 8s 6d to 11s per bushel; Ballarats, from 9s to, 10s 6d per bushel; Sturniers, from 7s 6d t,o 9s 6d per bushel; Granny Smiths, from 8s to 10s 6d per bushel; Doughertys, from 7s to 8s 6d per bushel. Oranges, from 20s to 25s per case: lemons, best, from 15s to 18s per case; others, from 10s 6d to 14s per case; celery, from 13s to 17s 6d per case; carrots, from 3s to 5s per bag; kumeras, from 5s to 7s 6d per sugar bag; lettuce, from 3s to 12s per case; onions, from 4s to 6s per case; pumpkins, from 18s to 21s 6d per sack; spinach, from 6s to 8s 3d per case; cabbage, from 4s to 9s per sack; spring cabbage, from 3s to 4s 6d per case; cauliflowers, from 8s to 16s 9d per sack; parsnips, from 6s to 7s 6d per case; Brussels Sprouts, from 14s to 16s 6d per case; potatoes, from £ll to £l2 10s per ton. ,
