(From Our Own Correspondent,) A PITT. Aug. 19.

The 42ud annual meeting of the local dairy factory was held on Wednesday morn ] ing. The meeting was late in starting as I it had to wait till the requisite number of t shareholders were present. Finally the chairman (Mr A. R. McNao) and sccre • ’ lary (Mr G. A. McLeod) took their places } with about forty suppliers and sharehold- ' ers present. Correspondence was dealt i with. Thanks were received from the >. Apiti School Committee for the company's , gift of £2 2s for Calf Club prizes. The chairman reviewed the report and balance , sheet (as presented in tin “Standard”), touching on tho questions of cartage, grading and other matters. The directors con--1 sidcrcd that a successful year had resulted. No ballot for new directors was necessary, as the three retiring members again offered themselves and there was no opposition. Mr A. H. Maguire, of Feilding, was again elected auditor. Tho directors recommended a 3 per cent, dividend on the paid-up capital, and the meeting gave their approval. The matter of a buttermilk tender was fully discussed. It was considered that a higher tender might have been accepted with benefit to the company. Directors spoke in support of the present system of disposing of the buttermilk, contending that a change would necessitate further l expenditure for .the company. R was moved and seconded that tenders be again called for the purchase and removal of buttermilk in three years’ time. The chairman thanked the directors, manager, staff, and shareholders for their support and cooperation. Mr G. Spence moved a vote of thanks and confidence in the directors, manager and staff for their satisfactory work during tho season, especially the manager, Mr AVatkins, for keeping down costs, this being a very important factor in the success of tho company's operations under changing conditions. Mr Watkins responded to the appreciative remarks thanking tho directors, suppliers and staff for their assistance. Mr McNae eulogised Mr Muir’s work in connection with tho carrying business. This was supported by Mr Martin, who _ recommended that a letter bo sent to bint expressing the shareholders’ thanks. Air \A T atkins (manager) stressed tho necessity of cream cans being in good order. Mr Munro moved that a donation of £2 2s be voted to the Calf Club competitions. A discussion took place in connection with the housing of factory employees. Messrs AA’ildboro and C. Stanley spoke on the necessity of seeing that the cream lorry driver bo assured of satisfactory housing. It was reccmmcndcd that there be no further building operations for the present. WOMEN’S DIVISION. A meeting of the committee of the local branch of the W.D.F.U. was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs A. Viles presiding. There were also present Mesdames T. Purnell (hon. secretary-treasurer), AA". J. Viles. W. Ilogan, S. 11. White, J. H. Cowan and (,'. Mclntyre. Plans for- the birthday meeting were discussed. An invitation from tile local AA’omen's Institute was received and all AA’.D. members will be welcomed at this function. For the AA'omen’s Division birthday meeting the competitions will bo: Decorative jar (any flowers for effect), and best collection of spring bulbs. It is hoped that there will be present Mrs AA’. F. Field (president of the Palmerston North branch), Mrs Colquhoun (provincial secretary) and Miss Matheson (secretary of the Palmerston North branch and hospital visitor).
