CONCERN EXPRESSED
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 20.
The financial statement presented at the annual meeting of the National War Funds Council showed that the accumulated fund was £87,598 and the trust funds £8348. The income and expenditure account showed a deficit of £14,471 for the 12 months, an increase of over £ISOO over that for the previous year. Allowing for trusts and imprest commitments, the sum available for general and unemployment relief was approximately £67,000, which at the rresent rate of expenditure would suffice ior about six years.
A considerable discussion took place concerning general and unemployment relief, the expenditure for the year being £15.295. The increasing responsibilities the council was being called upon to shoulder, with a consequent rapid depletion of the funds, was stressed, the’probability being that the council’s funds would he expended before those of the. district societies, though the original intention was that tlie council would provide imprests to allow societies to continue to function when their funds w r ere exhausted.
