PREMIER AND STATE HOUSES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. A hint tfiat the Government might be taking practical steps to expedite the progress of its, housing scheme was given bv Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage when the difficulties of getting skilled labour were referred to him.
“We have- to travel at a greater rate than we are at present in the b'/ding of houses. Every carpenter in New Zealand can he fully employed or as fully employed as he has ever been-. The people want tlio houses. Even at the present rate of progress, and it is greater than ever before, I will have passed away before the problem is anything like being solved.' I want to see the people get their homes in my lifetime. We are limited only by material and labour—labour in the main. If the artisans are not there to do the work and they cannot lie obtained from other sources, it is up to us to see that men are trained.”
