MEXICAN MARRIAGES.
LEGALITY IN QUESTION. FILM COLONY UPSET. HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 18. Mr Louis Schwartz, attorney for tho Australian actress Miss Jocelyn Howarth, who is seeking a divorce from the actor Mr George Brent, challenged Mr Kastro, expert witness lor Mr Brent. Mr Kastro contended that Californian couples spending a few hours in Mexico and being wed are not legally married under Mexican law.
Witness insisted that such a marriage would be legal only when one of the contracting parties indicated the intention of establishing a Mexican domiclo.
The movie colony is said tq be very disturbed by the case, which may jeopardise the marriages of several famous couples who eloped to Mexico. The court’s decision, therefore, is awaited with the greatest interest.
