LAND ACQUIRED
NEW TAKARO SCHOOL. I ~ EXTENSION AT RUSSELL STREET. Important purchases of land properties in Palmerston North, providing an apt indication of the expansion- of the city’s educational facilities, have been decided upon by the Wanganui Education Board. At its meeting, yesterday, the board reached finality on two such transactions. Negotiations have been completed for the purchase of an area of five acres at the end of Chelwood Street to constitute the site of the proposed new school at Takaro. Although a school may not he erected immediately to serve the suburb, the property lias been purchased in accordance with the board’s policy to acquire land where it is available to enable expansion to be undertaken. ¥ It has also been decided to acquire two acres of land adjacent to the present grounds of the Russell Street School to enable the playing area to be extended. Agreement has been reached between the board and the owners, and the final step rests with the Education Department. In addition to affording a much-needed lateral extension of the grounds, the new property will also provide the school with an additional means of access to Boundary Road.
