INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.
PURCHASE OF SITE. J OVERTURES TO MINISTER. Palmerston North members of the Wanganui Education Board, at the monthly meeting yesterday, stressed the necessity of acquiring an area of land in Ferguson Street for the erection of the proposed intermediate school, and a decision was made to approach the Minister of Education for a grant for this purpose. It was pointed out that a large property would probably be subdivided shortly, and the opinion was expressed that the board should investigate the position at once. Mr M. H. Oram said that the suggested site was equally as central as College Street. Many of the arguments used in favour of the College Street* proposal were not as weighty as they were originally and a separate site was being favoured more exten- * Colonel J. H. Whvte said that the board should stress lo the Minister of Education the necessity of securing the site immediately. If the site were not taken, the chance of a central intermediate school site lor Palmerston North would be lost for all time. The board decided that Mr Oram, Coloney Whyte and the secretary should be empowered to finalise negotiations for the acquisition of the proposed site.
