WOODVILLE, Aug. 18. The Mayor (Mr 11. P. Horne) presided at the monthly meeting ol the Y> oodville Borough Council. The Mayor referred to the death of the late Mr Charles, of Dannevirke, and second Mayor of the Woodvino Borough Council. Reference to the control of traffic in connection with racemeetings was made in a letter received from the secretary of the Woodville District Jockey Club (Mr W. A. Lyon), placing two suggestions before the council: (1) To prohibit the parking of cars on McLean Street, and Sowry Road on race days, and (2) to metal the upper portion of Fergusson Street so as to provide an alter native route for Gorge bound traffic.. It was decided to inform the club that parking of cars on race days was already forb'd Inn on Sowry Hoad between McLean o.nd Bevan Streets and that the council was not picpared lo allow parking in these streels. Mr W. Gilmour, of Woodvi'.le, whose marrirtgo to Miss K. Johnson, of Palmerston North, is approaching, wa9 tho guest of honour at a party tendered him by Mr and Mrs W. Fairley, on Monday evening. Mr and Mrs Fairley received about eighty guests, Mrs Fairley wearing a graceful frock of floral marorain with a red coatee. Miss Johnson, the bride elect, was wearing a picture frock of green flat crepe with white fur evening coat and was presented with a dainty bouquet by Mrs Fairley. The music was provided by Mr G. Fairley, junr.. and Mrs Jones. Selections on the bagpipes were contributed by Mr A. Harris. The opportunity was taken to make a presentation of a chiming clock to Mr Gilmour from Mr Fairley and Mr Meekiti, the former conveying good wishes for the future.
