LINTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LINTON, Aug. 18. _ Tho August meeting of the Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs E. Harisson, who extended, to the visitors and members a hearty welcome. Mrs Harrisson introduced the speaker, Mr Tippling, of Massey College, who gave a very interesting lecture on insects, etc., and as many school children were present they, too, enjoyed the talk and took a keen interest in viewing the different species of insects handed round. At the conclusion of tho speaker’s address, he was accorded a vote of thanks. The local school children entertained all present by giving exhibitions of folk dancing, etc. The competition for the best-knitted article was won by Mrs D. Currin. Tho garden circle gave a good report on its work. Another successful card evening was held on Monday in the Church Hall, when the winners were Mr E. Wishnowsky and Mrs W. Algie. Mr Jos. Batchelar returned home on Monday after spending a few days in Wellington. Mr T. Gooeli is holiday-mak-ing in the north. The friends of Mr 1. Romley will be pleased to learn that he is home from hospital and making progress towards recovery from his recent illness, while his little son, who was also an inmate, is progressing.
