A timber “war” bad been raging in Oliakuno, and as the result prices had fallen. Drceaod timber was selling at 8s 6d per hundred feet and undressed al 65. The price of gold in Auckland had varied from £2 12s 6d per ounce to £4 4s 6<l. The annual meeting of St. Andrew’s Church had been held, Itev. I. Jolly presiding. Reports had indicated that tho membership was growing. , The New Zealand professional football team had defeated New South Wales in its second match by 19 points lo 5. The Wellington Rugby Union had held a meeting suspending tho professionals. Tho Government had refused a request, made in Parliament that children who had to travel over three miles to school should bo provided with horses.
