JAPANESE WARSHIP DAMAGED,

SHANGHAI, Aug. 17. The Japanese to-day bombed the Chinese section of the Bund and resumed the bombardment and bombing of Pootung. Mr Sugiyama reported that the Chinese Central Government troops are continuing to advance in North China. The main body concentrated on Paoting and T&mgcliow. Cabinet has fixed September 3 for the reassembly of the Diet when measures will be submitted placing the country on a war footing. A AVar Office communique reports that the gunpowder factory at Uji, in the Kyoto prefecture, exploded yesterday night. Twenty-two were injured and one workshop, nine warehouses and three houses were destroyed.
