NEW CRUISER.

. ARRIVAL OF THE LEANDER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 18. The cruiser Leander ; which is a sister ship to the Achilles, arrived at 9.30 this morning from Plymouth to join the New Zealand Station. She called at Jamaica and Panama Canal porta and was the first naval vessel in 26 years to call at Pitcairn Island. She omitted the proposed call to Fiji as she was unable to refuel there. It was a good voyage, except for three days’ rough weather in mid-Pacific and a severe gale which she ran into five days out from New Zealand. The Leander is under the command of Captain J. W. Rivett-Garnac.
