MILSON.
(From Our Own Corresixindeni.) MILSON, Aug. 18. The Empire Hall presented a gay scene on Monday evening, when (lie Allison Women’s Institute held their fifth birthday, the gathering taking the form of a social and dance. There was a good attendance, including a largo number of visitors from sister Institutes and surrounding districts. The hall was beautifully decorated with greenery, flowers and; streamers, and with the many beautiful dresses the hall presented a brilliant spectacle. The duties of M.C. were Aimed out by Mr F. Murphy. A programme was contributed by the following: Miss Williams, vocal solo, “Indian Ix>ve Call’’; Miss McKain, vocal solo, “Love's Song at Eventide”; Mr Flannigan, song, “Mountains of Mourne”; Miss Fat ricia Dale and Master N. Bruce, tap duo; Miss Hale gave a character tap donee. The dancers are pupils of Miss June Scott, who accompanied them. A one-act comedy, entitled “Nothing But the Truth,” produced by Mrs F. Murphy, was presented, those taking part being Mrs Anderson (Aunt Amelia), Mrs Cutten (Mm Newberry), Mrs Munro (the maid, Susan), .Mm Hammond (Mrs Raymond), Mrs Huntingdon (Irene), Mrs De Vantier (Daisy), Miss Terry (Marjorie). The beautiful two-tiered birthday cake was made by Mcsdames Murphy, Child and McKenzie, and iced by Miss E. Prentice. Before cutting the cake Mrs Murphy expressed pleasure at the occasion of the fifth birthday and hoped the Institute would bo able to celebrate many more. She caked on Mis Temp eton to light the candles as she is leaving this week to make her home in Grcymouth. Mm Templeton was accorded musical honours. Miss 1 > Vantier, the youngest member, was called on to blow out the candles. An apology was received irom Miss Grant, president of the North Wellington Federation; and greetings wore sent from Ashhurst; best wishes were also expressed _ from Mrs Loamy, president of the Kairanga Institute. Supper was served by members of the committee, who worked hard in catering for the, large gathering. The proceedings reflected great credit on the work of the committee in organising such an enjoyable function. Oti Tuesday evening the Mi'ison table tennis C grade team played St., Patrick’s for their competition match in the second round, Milson being the winners by 30 games to 6 games.
