From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Aug. 16. The annual meeting of Rongotea branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society waj held in the Methodist Clinch. Mr H. J. Crawford was in the chair, the attendance being larger than for some years. Mr Crawford was elected president, Mcsdames J. C. Glover and F. .Wright vice-presidents, and Miss A. Hunt secretary, this being the fourteenth year Miss Hunt has held this office. The chairman welcomed Miss Faucctt, representor tive of the society, who addressed the meeting on the work in Spain, where a caravan (supplied by friends in England) was at work. It was called “George Borrow,’’ in honour of the pioner colporteur in Spain. The conditions had become very difficult in recent months. Japan offered a great field for labour with it 3 population of ninety millions, of whom less than 1 per cent, were Christians; the Bible was being distributed there as rapidly as possible. The greatest triumph of the society in recent years had been in China.
