(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKARONCO. Aug. 6. ' A well altiflidcd fancy dress ball for School Queen funds held in the Kali. Messrs J. Romley, J. Lynch, and H. Moody judged the fancy costumes, prizes being won as follow: —Rest pair, Mies U. Iloilo and .Air A. Woodd, Oldfashioned ; original lady, Miss M. Vautier, Good-night; original man. i\Jr T. Jamieson, Pop-eye. Amongst others present in costume were: Misses E. Woodd, Bridegroom; B Woodd, Best Man; J. Woodd, Night; IT. Wood, Pierette; G. Jones, Spani-h; T. Newcombe, Turkish Lady; I. Johanson, Spanish; At. Isaacs, Dinah; L. Jordon, Mo, the NiggJr; Messrs J. Woodd, Bride; K. Woodd, Bridesmaid; T. Vogt, Parson; G. Hunt, Apache; C. Henderson. Russian. CMlicis present were: Mesdames J. Lynch, green; S. Oxcnham, blue and silver; P. T'ait, white satin; A. Harvey, navy; Knudsen. brown; Blisses M. Speedy, blue and silver; L. ’ Smith, green crepe; L. Speedy, purple satin and gold; King, yellow satin and black; S. Speedy, blue crepe and silver; Pearce, pink floral; J. Smith, red floral; D. Jelfrie, green crepe. Mr J. Woodd was M.C. and lucky dances were won as follow: Monte Carlo, Mr and Mrs P. Tait; lucky spot, Miss L. Speedy and Air G. Hunt. A fairly successful smoko concert for School Queen funds was held last week. Mr E. Rout was in charge of affairs. Last week the ladies played a return euchre match against the men and beat tl,em. Mrs 41 organ won the ladies’ prize from Miss M. Proctor and Air N. Lawrence the men’s trophy from Air R. Puklowski. • The Hall Queen Committee held a grand carnival ball on Thursday evening. The event, of the evening was the waltzing and fox-rrot competitions. Mrs Sutton was the waltzing judge and Air and Airs Burling wero judged the winners from a targe entry. Tho fox-trot judge was .Miss Betti Parke*, and her choice was Aiks Allen and Air Tiatca. Tap dance and burlesque dancing by Air W. Allan were appreciated. Mr H. Gore was AI.C. The bridge party arranged by Air and Airs F. Coutts and helpers was a particularly enjoyable function for the Hall Queen. Another School Queen function was held on Friday, this taking tho form of a jrarty interspersed with dance*. Air C. Henderson and friend _ exhibited tap dances. Air K. Puklowfiki was the. M.C. and the Alonte Carlo was won by Alisa W. Vautier and partner; lucky spot, Aliss T. Newcombe and Mr Kelly; Gay Gordons, Air K. Knudscn and Airs Oxenham. Tho ’.position* of tho Queens was written ud avain on Thursday. Tho position is: Hall °Quccn (Aliss Olga Uhrbom), 25.863 (pennv votes);,School Queen (Mi?s Lynda Speedy), 24.663 votes. All money must be in the hands of the treasurer (Air J. Morris) by 10 p.m. next Saturday. The carnival has been carried on for throe months, and this week will see its conclusion. Miss H. King is a visitor who has been staying with Aliss L. AVcodd. The school children played against A=hhurst in basketball and football last week. The girls lost 15—3 and the bovs 17—0. Alay Johanson and Nelson Wood captained the teams. On Saturday the two basketball teams played matches, winning both. Ihe A team beat High School C 14-9 the players boirur Misses J* Wood, E. Woodd. M. Radomski, C. Vautier. L. Smith. H Wood, J Smith, W. Vautier and L. Speedy. Iho B team beat Tech. C, Whakaronpo being represented by Alisses A. Olsen, G. Jones, T. Newcoinbc, H. Christiansen, V.
Puklowski. I. Johnnson, J. Harvey, P. Christiansen, and H. Harrowfield. The final dance of the Saturday series, for tho School Queen funds was an extra special one. Balloons, confetti, and streamers added to tho gaic'tv, and tho funds should benefit considerably. Air F-. Eagle thanked all who bad been associated with him, esneriallv Air AA T . Jone=. Mr H. Wood thanked Air Eagle for his initiative in run ning the dances. Lucky' dances were won as follow: Alonte Carlo, Mr R. Tab and partner: Gay Gordons, ATiss S. Heath. Messrs D. Robert and K. Knudsen; lucky spot, Aliss H. Wood and Mr Johanson.
