UNREST IN PALESTINE. Received August 18, 11.40 a.m. JERUSALEM, Aug. 17. The authorities are endeavouring to stem the unrest which has been growing recently by the gaoling of agitators. A "dozen were arrested at tho week-end, including the secretarygeneral of the Arab National Committee. There have been attacks on Jews and police. Arabs are also suspected of selling land to the Jews. PARTITION OF PALESTINE. Received August 18, 12.15 p.m. GENEVA, Aug. 17. The Mandates Commission has completed its report on Palestine. It is understood that it will raise no objection to the principle of partition, hut suggests a transition period, if necessary, with a modification of the present mandate in order to permit the application of partition in the best possible conditions.
