SOVIET SHEEP PURCHASES.
A delegation of Russian sheep buyers visited the Dominion somo months ago to purchase sheep, but could not get their requirements filled. The latest Farmer and Stockbreeder to hand from England states that further livestock purchases are likely to bo made there this year by the Russian Commission which bought so extensively last vear. Mr J. Mayoroff, leader of the delegation, has, with his veterinary officers and exports, visited during tho last four months many of the most important flocks in New Zealand, especially the Romneys and Corriedales. They consider tho type of sheep to be of a high standard and suitable for dual purposo farming as practised in Russia, but owing to the wet spring and summer the sheep do not at present complv, in every respect, with the buying specifications. The commission is now (July 12) on its way to England. It would appear from the foregoing that Russia will not bo a purchaser of New Zealand sheep in the immediate future.
