Miss Margaret Galloway, of Palmerston North, is convalescing at her home after her recent accident near Auckland. Mrs J. King, of Havill'.Street, and her daughter. Miss Z. King, will leave on Saturday for National Park to spend a: week’s holiday. Mr and Mrs W. P. Russell, of Featlierston Street, have returned from Christchurch, which they visited for Grand National Week. Mrs D. McCormick has returned to Hawern after visiting friends in Palmerston North. Mrs P. O. Yeale, of Hawera, has returned homo after spending a few days in Palmerston North. Mrs J. M. Clarke, of New Plymouth, spent the week-end in Palmerston North. Miss Gwen Gibbs, organiser for the Royal Academy of Dancing, leaves .on Friday for Wellington, where she will adjudicate in the dancing section of the competitions.

Miss Margaretto Oram is spending her vacation from Canterbury University College with her parents, Mr and Mrs M. H. Oram. Miss E. Anderson, matron of the Willard Home, and Miss S. Pearce, sub-matron, bare returned from a fortnight’s holiday spent in Napier. Mr and Mrs M. Johnson arc Cambridge visitors to Palmerston North. Mr and Mrs R. H. Billens, pf College Street, have staying with them Miss Yvonne Levvey, of Christchurch. Miss Myra Billens is spending a vacation from Canterbury University College in Palmertson North. Miss A. Kirkwood, travelling secretary for the Presbyterian Young ■Women’s Bible Classes, is visiting Palmerston North, and is the guest of Miss L. C. Thompson, Stanley Avcjiue. At present there are twenty-one children in the Willard Home, and twenty-eight in All Saints’ Children’s Home. ‘Mrs J. W. McConnon, of Russell Street, leaves Palmerston North on Thursday to join her husband in Wellington, where she will make her future home. They will reside in Oriental Bay for the first six months. Mrs McConnon's friends will he glad to learn that her health is improving after her recent illness.

Miss Phyllis L. Robertson, M.Sc., lias been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs Athol Robertson, of New Plymouth, before proceeding to the Cawthron Institute at Nelson, where the entomological section of the plant research bureau lias just been transferred. Miss Robertson lias spent the last two years at the Plant Research Bureau, Palmerston North, investigating tho diamond hack month problem. “It lias only one drawback —a mouse,” said a member of the Willard Home Board yesterday, amid laughter, when a report was made on the stand secured for a stall at the next A. and P. Show. Offers of the loan of a trap and a cat were humorously made, hut one lady defended the mouse by saying that she had thought it was “a dear little chap.” The death has occurred at Napier after a brief illness of Mrs C. H. Simmonds, wife of Mr Charles Simnionds, Mrs Siinmonds was actively associated with sport, particularly swimming. For many years she was woman superintendent at the Napier municipal baths. At an early age she held the New Zealand women’s walking record for. 12 miles, and she was also a Sandow gold medallist, gaining high honours in physical culture work at Christchurch. She took a prominent part in forming the Tiniaru Ladies Swimming Club. Proceeding to Napier in 1910, she, with her husband, formed the Te Awa Swimming Club and later the Te Awa Ladies’ Hockey Club. lor many years she was patroness of the Hawke’s Bay Ladies’ Hockey Association and represented the province as full-back. She was the holder of the award of merit of the Royal Life-sav-ing Society, and had taught many hundreds of children to swim. Mrs Simnionds leaves a husband and one daughter.
