MISCELLANEOUS CASES.

Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided at ift sitting of the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. C. G. Booker, of Shannon, was charged with driving a motor car in the Square on July 24 without due care and attention.—-Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre said defendant had collided with a cyclist 73 years of age at the intersection of the Square and Church Street. He had paid the cyclist £1 as compensation for injury to the latter and damages to his clothes. Defendant was fined £2, with 10s costs. R, C. Hill, of Taikorea, was charged with failing to give way to traffic on the right at the intersection of Main Street with the Square on June 8. Mr J. Grant, for defendant, entered a plea of guilty. Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre explained that defendant had nearly been involved in a collision when coming into the Square from the direction of the railway station. Mr Grant Explained that defendant had previously looked to his right and the road had then been clear. After that defendant s attention had been occupied with the approach of another car. A fine of £1 was imposed, with 16s costs, the Magistrate remarking that it was not a bad case. C. McDowall, of Shannon, was charged with riding a bicycle on the Shan-non-Foxton main highway, on July 28, without a light. He was fined 10s, the Court costs being 10s. H. D. Abbiss, of b RoTleston Street, was called on an information alleging him to be in arrears to the extent of £7 under a maintenance order for his wife and £3 in arrear on another order, in respect of a child.— “He appears to be 6omewhat of an obstructionist,” remarked the Magistrate when considering the case. Defendant was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment on the first information, to be released on payment of the arrears. On the second information he Was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, to be released on payment of the arrears. Richard Henry Pratt, of Morrinsville, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. to bo released on tho payment of £3" Bs, arrears of maintenance in respect of a child. Costs of. £1 Is are also to be paid. Mr L. G. Sin- j clair appeared tor the informant.
