SALE OF BROOD MARE. THREE OWNERS IN ONE DAY. Hogan for 130 guineas, but was later turned over by hint to Mr E. P. Loiscl, Tolaga Bay, owner of Big Dook, for 230 guineas. Wood vi lie Mentor’s Plans. F. W. Davis is expected to return to Wocdville from Wanganui before the end of the month and to leave for Australia by the Wanganclla from Wellington oil September 2. lliu team will consist of Com (craft, Francis Drake, Homily, and
Aiwai. An Improved Mare. The aged marc, Jolly Bronev, who has been qualified for hunters’ events, will compete in that class at the Pakuranga meeting. She has made marked improvement since she last appeared in public and is, now' morn solid-looking than ever she has been. It is intended to school Jolly Broney over the steeplechase fences at Ellemlic before the meeting, and as she is.a proficient jumper she -should have no difficulty in negotiating the obstacles. Heiress at Randwick.
Heiress, the rising thrcc-year-o.d HPy _by Posterity from Episode, and sister to Kinsfolk. has been put into work at Randwick by Cl. Price. Heiress, who cost Mr E. J. Watt 475 guineas as a yearling, lias not raced. Nightingale, a half-sister to Homer, is another who has been commissioned by Price after a spell. Valuable Brood Mare. The Irish-bred marc Atliasi, a daughter of Farasi, has won a good place among successful matrons in tho Old Country. Six of her produce, all by Blandford, have captured prize-money to the amount of ±150,269, the list being made up as follows: —Trigo, £27,102; Athlord, £7974; Harincro, £51347; Centino, £961; l’ritiioro, £4257; Hanna, £4128. Atliasi was foaled in 1917, so that she is now in her 20th year. T. Lloyd’s Team.
T. Lloyd has four homes in work for Dr M. G. Louisson at Riccarton. Two-year-old Private Bunsby has been getting through useful tasks for some time and ho should be a good sort in the spring. Invoice has had a spell, but this useful sprinter should bo ready to show form again before long. A couple of two-vcar-olds, a colt by Dcloe from Misgovern and a filly by Hoylako from Royal Baby, completo tho team, Tlioy are both chestnuts and good-looking youngsters. ; Mating With Theio.
Tamo Duck, dam of Admiral Drake, Francis Drake and company, has boon hooked to visit Theio this year. Theio has been imported by- Mr F. 13. Donnelly, of Hastings, who also has Lord Quex and Tidal. An unusual feature about Theio is that lie is a grey, a colour against which many New Zealand breeders and owners arc prejudiced. He is by Tctratema from Thvomc.
Grand Jury. Although now in the veteran class, Grand Jury wilt be racing again this season and is to reappear at the Wanganui meeting in September. He is standing up to his work well and as his form last season was fairly good he may not yet be a spent light. Dam of Ruinette.
Rcwanga, a grey mare, whoso dam Tauhei and grand-dam, Vivandicrc, were of the same colour, had six grey feals in succession, including the fine performers Aratinah and Grand Sport and the recent winner, Ruinette. Her last offspring, however, was the now' .... four-year-old Great Sport, a bay gelding by Boy Jay, a horse by Hunting Song—Blue Jay, and brother to Jayson and Hunting Jay. ’lauhei was aged 18 wears when she foaled. Rcwanga and the latter was aged 22 years when she foaled Great Sport.
Highborn’s Rough Trip. The two-year-old Highborn, who wont to Sydney a few weeks back, met with a rough trip and did net do well. 1 his win not altogether surprising, as when coming over from Australia as a yearling he did not appreciate sea travelling. Jockeys on the Minimum. There arc 13 jockeys who call ride under 7.0 and 22 who can ride 7.7 in tho Dominion. Of tho apprentice horsemen, 32 can ride under 7.0 anti 39 more can go to scale under 7.7. Transfer to Riccarton.
,\. McMullan, who for several years has trained on the West Coast, will make Riccarton his place of residence in future. He has under his charge Dciiuin, the three-ver.r-old fillv hv Dolomite from Note and a two-year-old" filly by Robespierre from Wanda.
Maori Song. Maori Song, who came into prominence as the result of bis two impressive wins in minor back events at (ho Wellington meeting last month, will compete in tho open sprint at the . Pakuranga meeting. Although a smart galloper, and one that has been steadily improving with racing, there is a big difference between the class that Maori Song beat at Trent ham and that which will oppose him in the Dunedin Handicap at Ellcrslio. It will therefore be interesting to see how he performs. May Repeat Success. . When Johnny Walls off last season by winning four races within a short period he gave every indication of being a big stake winner. His subsequent form, however, fell short of expectations, for ho failed to win again in his last twelve starts. Johnny Walls is down to contest tho Dunedin Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting at which fixture he opened his winning account last season.
In Jellicoe Handicap. Although Tybalt has only been in work a few weeks, following a spell, be ie making good headway and looks bright and healthy. Ho was responsible for a good workout over six furlongs, the other morning, running the distance in fair time, considering the state of the going. Tybalt
claims ail engagement in the Jcllicoc Handicap at tho Pakuranga meeting, and as lie usually races well when fresh ho must bo given more than an outside chance. Should Go Well.
Captain Bruce, who figures in the Sylvia. Park Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting, is now being sent along a bit faster .in his work and is shaping well, 'this gelding did not begin fast enough to get a good position in ihc early stages of his races at tho Great Northern meeting, otherwise lie would have been harder to beat. As Captain Bruce will bo racing over a shorter distance next week he will need to jump out smartly in order to have a winning chance. A Fit Horse.
The Jcllicce Handicap candidate Knight of Australia has done a lot of werk during the last month and will strip in good fettle for his engagement at Pakuranga, says an exchange. As this horse can act in anygoing tiro conditions will not trouble him, though he would probably be better suited over a longer journey than a mile. Knight of Australia lias run some good races at Ellorslio and solid support is likely to bo accorded him in the coming contest.
Working Well. Valmint has freshened up noticeably during tile last couple cf weeks and is now working as well as c-ver. Recently lie was responsible for a smart gallop over four ftu-longs, and tho run is likely to do him a lot of good. The son of Vaals and Lomint put tip two .sterling performances at the Great Northern mooting, and if he ro produces tho same form in the Jclliecc Handicap this week he will keep tho opposition busy.
Sale of True Bill. Sold under the hammer recently for 100 gns, the two-year-old True Bill, by Surveyor—Adi Thangi, was purchased by bis part-owner, Mr A. E. Pearce, and has been placed in E. Pope’s stable, at Eilcrslic. True Bill is not very forward, but is the type to come to band quickly. Lady Ruler. Lady Ruler has not been long in work at Elterslio, following an enforced respite as the result of an injury at tho June meeting.
