BADMINTON.
NORTH ISLAND TOURNEY. Tho North Island Badminton tournament opened in Hastings to-day and will continue until Friday. Leading players are present from Auckland, Palmerston North, Wanganui, Masterton, Dannevirke, New Plymouth and Gisborne, while there are several Hastings and Napier entrants. P. Hawksworth (Masterton), the present New Zealand champion, is defending his North Island titles, and Miss M. Wade (Auckland), New Zealand women’s doubles champion, is participating. Other well-known players participating are Mrs P. Hawksworth, Miss P. Dixon, Mrs Hosking (Masterton), Mrs Bentley and Miss Glenny (Hastings), Mrs Mawson (Napier); Lewis (Auckland), H. M. O’Connor and J. Payton (Masterton), N. R. C. Wilson and B. H. Collinge (Hastings).
