COLLIERY EXPLOSION

IN NEW SOUTH WALES. FIFTH IN RECENT MONTHS. MEN’S LUCKY ESCAPE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 16, 10.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 16. An explosion occurred to-day at Maitland extended No. 5 colliery, a small' mine on the Rothbury Estate, near Branxton. It blew a two-roomed galvanised shed to pieces and a motorcar and bicycle near-by were wrecked. Two employees of tho colliery had occupied the shed, but had just left it when the explosion occurred. During the past 14 months four other explosions, thought by the police to be cases of sabotage, liave occurred on the estate.
