The killing season for hobhv calves is now in full swing, and last week about 50,000 head passed through the five freezing works in the Auckland province. Auckland farmers have realised this season some £23.000 from this sideline. Operations are expected to go on at the peak rate for about three weeks, though the season lasts several months.
