TRIBUTES TO MATRON.
LATE MISS J. N. McGHIE. At to-day’s meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board it was decided to place on record appreciation of the services rendered by the late matron, Miss J. N. McGhie, over a long period - of years in the nursing service, and tender to her relatives their deepest sympathy in their bereavement. In moving the motion the chairman, Mr J. A. Nash, said that the late Miss McGhie had entered the nursing profession early in life, rapidly rising to the position of matron. She had rendered service overseas during the Great War, and eventually was invalided home to New Zealand Upon regaining' her health she had filled a number of responsible positions in the Cambridge Sanatorium, Christchurch Hospital, King George V Holspital at Rotorua, and her work at these institutions for invalided returned soldiers would not be forgotten. She had been for several years president of the Manawatu branch of the Registered Nurses’ Association, and also took an active interest in the work of the Red Cross Society, delivering lectures from time to time. “The late Miss McGhie,” added the chairman, “was appointed matron of this Hospital 10 years ago, and rendered distinguished service. She was due to retire on superannuation' in 1940. Although a strict disciplinarian, she had a genial and kindly disposition and held the love and esteem of all those under her control. Her loss is a very serious one to the board and the Hospital, and we deeply regret her .early demise.” The motion was seconded by Mr GA. Monk, and after other members had paid tributes, it was carried in silence.
