KAIRANGA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) KAIRANGA, Aug. 13. The August meeting of the Kairanga Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs I’. Loamy presiding, over a large attendance of members and visitors. One now member, Mrs Mexted, was welcomed. Correspondence was read from the Milson Institute extending an invitation lo the birthday celebrations. It was decided to hold the flower show in November. Mrs Loamy thanked the members for their help at tlie recent birthday evening. Mm Clark demonstrated hairpin work and members who had brought their silk were started off. Results of competitions wore: Jam-jar of flowers, Mrs McClelland. 1, Mrs Kilgcur 2, Miss Eglintnn 3. Seniors, jar of marmalade, Mrs McClelland 1, Mrs H. Turner 2. Mrs Small 3. Juniors, best covered coat hanger, Miss G. Hyde 1 and 3, Mbs Meager 2. Competitions for September are: Jam jar of flowers; seniors, knitted tea cosy; juniors, coffee sponge decorated. Hostesses. Mosdamcs Bee, Funnell. McClelland, Pcdcrsdn. Tiie euchre function on Wednesday night was well attended. Prizes were won by: Ladies. Mrs L. Clark 1, Miss II Hall 2; men,- Mr F. Cummins 1. Mr G. Beasley 2.. Arbor Day was celebrated at'the Kairanga School yesterday afternoon. Mr Mudford addressed the children and three ornamental trees were planted. Mr Ilyde, chairman of the School Committee, also addressed the children, after which a. basketball match was played between midget teams representing the Kairanga and Longbrun Schools. The local team wen .by 15 goal.- to 14. The teams were:—Kairanga, M. Collis, M. Passey, I. Mallit, P. Turner, B. Mallitt, B. Doherty, J. Davcy, D. Eglinton, G. Rossiter. Longburn, C. Svcnsson, S. Jackson, J. Sayers, I. Geo, J. Stephenson, B. Kornohan. 0. Cailcson, M. Stephenson, E. Oke. Miss Liyircrison controlled the game. Norma Prouse, on behalf of the children present, thanked the mothers for the afternoon tea. Mary Collis thanked the Longburn players for the visit. Ola Calieson replied.
