EXPLOSION IN FIRE

DETONATOR SUSPECTED. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 15. An explosion which is thought to have been caused by a detonator did considerable damage to a fireplace grate and furniture in the sittingroom at the residence of Mr G. T. Ritchie, 130 Cobham Street, Addington, at 7.30 p.m. on Friday. The fire burning in the grate had been replenished with coal a. few minutes before the explosion. Mr Ritchie, who was alone in the room at tho time, was sitting in front ot the fire, and though not seriously injured, he suffered from shock. The fireplace was damaged, while ashes and debris were thrown out into the room over the furniture. It is understood that the police, do not consider there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
