DANISH. WOMEN.

PART IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS. MANY IN PARLIAMENT. “Women in Denmark have come forward very prominently in the past few years,” said Mrs Erik Weiser, of Stockholm, who passed through Auckland en route to Australia. In Denmark there was a large number of able women in Parliament, while a number had been sent to the League of Nations as advisers. Women delegates to the League had been commended for their assistance, especially in the commission dealing with ' social matters. There had even been a woman member of the Cabinet. There was a woman Judge in the Superior Court, and in administration women were in practically all the departments except the Foreign service. Practically all the professions in life were open to women, including engineering and architecture. Danish women were not very enthusiastic about sport, but possessed a variety of other practical interests. Handicrafts of different kinds and embroidery were very popular. Members of the Royal Family also possessed a wide variety of interests, and most of them had passed examinations in cooking. . , Education played an important part in the lives of all women in Denmark, and even girls w'ho -worked in stores or offices and who had little time to spare thought nothing of attending regular night classes. Most of them spoke English and German as well as their own language.
