POTATOES FIRMER
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 13 . Apart from a sudden firming in potatoes. the grain and produce markets in Christchurch have been extremely quiet this week. Potatoes have risen about 30s a ton since the end ot last week. Tlie North Island enquiry was fairly strongly earlv in the week and nrice« here immediately responded, but they rose to a figure that has to some extent discouraged the North Island trade. A shipment of about 6000 sacks is due to leave at the week-end, and in the meantime no great amount of business is passing, though there is still some enquiry. Rakotas are worth at present about £8 10s on trucks and whites about £B, Chaff is quiet, and there is no great demand for oats. , , The seed (rade shows little hie. but the spring demand should make itself felt within a week or two.
