FAREWELL FUNCTION

A very pleasant function was he'd at Messrs C'ollinson and Cunninghame’s rooms yesterday, When members of the Longburn Group of AVomen’s Institutes farewelled Mrs AV. Templeton, a valued member, who is shortly leaving for Greymouth. Mrs E. Dyntock, tho convener, who was responsible for the arrangements, presided, associated with her being Aliss M. Grant, president of the North AA’ellington Federation.

Extending a welcome to the guest of honour and members of the group, Miss Grant said it was with mixed feelings they 7 had assembled; there was sadness that it meant saying farewell to one who could ill be spared, yet pleasure in paying public tribute to Airs Templeton’s worth. Prior to a presentation io Ain? Templeton the company was entertained by members of the Alilson. Institute singing circle, who contributed glees, accompanied by Airs F. G. Alurphy at the piano. Aliss Freda Whittaker presented elocutionary items and an amusing dialogue was given by Alcsdames D. Rabone ami Childs.

in asking Airs Templeton to accept a handsome umbrella which carried the affectionate esteem of all the members in the group, Aliss Grant said she bad upheld the highest ideals of membership. Mrs Templeton had been a resident of Palmerston North for twenty 7 -four years and had been an Institute member since the inauguration of the movement in the Atanawatu. She bail given her services gladly, never sparing herself in furthering the movement, particularly in the matter of raising funds. In all the big activities of the federation she bad been to tlie fore, and her removal was a Jess to the federation. Thanking Airs Jempleton personally, Aliss Grant wished her health and happiness in the future and said she was sure Airs Templeton would continue her good work on the AA’cst Coast for the benefit of the Greymouth' Institute. Airs Templeton expressed her thanks and was accorded musical honours and cheers. Eulogistic reference to Afrs Templeton’s good work was also made by Mesdames AAL G. Short and H. Barmcoat (secretary and treasurer of the federation) aiid by the following on behalf of the institutes in the group: Mrs Flowers (Ashlmrst), Airs PLeamy (Kairanga), Airs J. Afori I; (AVliakarongo), Airs AV. F. Field (Aokautere). The Alilson Institute ami the federation executive had previously honoured Airs Templeton. Tiakitahuna sent good wishes. Thanks were conveyed to those who had been responsible for tho entertainment, and to Airs Dymock for arranging the function, the last-named thanking the members for their attendance, the gathering terminating with tho singing t of “Auld Lang Syne.”
