THE HAT THICK

ROBERTS’S SUCCESS. SIR J. CAHN’S TEAM BEATEN. TOURISTS’ CREDITABLE WIN. (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the Team.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 13, 9.45 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 12. The New Zealand cricketers won the match with Sir Julien Calm’s XI liy nine wickets. Roberts, who took four wickets for .39 runs in the second innings. performed the first hat-trick of the tour. . i . The New Zealanders’ success was really outstanding. Jt was the first time Sir Julien Calm’s team had been beaten since its defeat five years ago when touring South America. The New Zealand bowling was excellent, especially that of Roberts, who might easily have taken six or eight wickets, several snicks evading the fieldsmen. He performed the hat trick before lunch for the -first time in his career and received the ball as a souvenir. Cowic bowled at his fastest and all tlie batsmen played him defensively. There was nothing wrong with tlie wicket. It was a performance of great merit -to dismiss such a strong side so cheaply twice. New Zealand comfortably scored the runs required, although the bowling Was of average county strength. Tindill gave probably his best display of the tour, making clear, strong strokes all round the wicket. Carson punished anything short with great severity. Details:— SIR JULIEN CAHN’S XI.
