VIOLATION OF TRUCE.
INQUIRY INTO JAPAN’S CHARGE,
Received August 13, 9-40 a.m. SHANGHAI, Aug. 12. Ai the request of the Japanese authorities the truce committee, consisting of the Japanese Consul-Gen-eral, the Military Attache, the Chinese Mayor of Shanghai and the ConsulsGeneral of Britain, the United States, and France, has been summoned to meet. They will be asked to consider the Japanese allegations that the Chinese violated the Shanghai truce agreement of 1932 by bringing regular troops within the demilitarised zone extending 12 miles from Shanghai. ... Foreign volunteers have been mobilised to protect foreign interests, and the border is barricaded.
