• WESTERN AUSTRALIA BEATEN. SYDNEY, Aug. 11. Rain marred the hockey match, New Zealand v. Western Australia, to-day. New Zealand won, s—l.5 —1. The visitors’ forwards exploited flick and scoop shots throughout, their methods meeting with success on the heavy ground. Houghton and Duffiekl penetrated the defence easily’. Hall, goalie for Western Australia, saved many goals with great kicks. Clark and Mahoney, the New Zealand backs, held the opposing attack with ease. Clark was outstanding for New Zealand. Scorers for New Zealand were Duffield' (2) and Houghton (3). Queensland, with a record of no defeats, won the Australian championship.
