TRAIN SMASH
ACCIDENT NEAR TAUPIRI. PASSENGERS TRANSHIPPED. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Aug. 13. 1 Passenger and goods traffic was disorganised tor over twelve hours as th« result of a train smash near Taupiri, late last nigirfc. Considerable damage was done to the permanent way and wagons. The accident occurred at 11.30 p.m. and the passengers had to be transhipped by buses over the damaged section to the line. , It was anticipated that the normal schedule would be in operation by midday. . The collision occurred as the train* were proceeding in the same direction. They left Huntly at ten-minute intervals, the first stopping as the result of a damaged bumper. The following train was unable to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the stationary trucks. , , . The department stated this morning that the excursion trains to Wellington would run to schedule.
