REDUCTION IN STERLING EXCHANGE.

The weekly statement of assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as at tho close of business oil Monday, August 9, is as follows: — LIABILITIES. £ s d
Proportion of reserve (No. 7 less No. 5) to notes and other demand liabilities, 79.053 per cent., as compared with 79.676 per cent, on August 2. Sterling exchange shows a major reduction of £722,983, bringing the total down to £20,153,840. Gold remains unchanged at £2,801,791. Subsidiary coin totals £110,333, an increase of £172. Advances to the State dairy industry account total £4,284,015. an increase of £70,315. Advances to the State for other purposes remain unchanged at £300,000. Investments show no change at £2,906,450. Other assets amount to £75,054, a decrease of £29,062. The note issue at £12,601,293, shows a decrease of £29,278. Demand liabilities to (lie State total £6,613,082, a decrease of £112,583. The trading banks’ reserve balances stand at £9,161,696. a reduction of £632 147. Other demand liabilities have increased by £93.682, and now total £662,017. Other liabilities at £93,395, show a reduction of £1231. The statement balances at £30,631,483, a decrease of £681,557.
