ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES.
CHANGES CRITICISED
At the meeting of the Fcilding Borough Council, last evening, a copy of a map and Gazette showing the proposed new electoral boundaries was displayed for the perusal of councillors, and it was decided that the Mayor sign a petition which was being circulated), on behalf of the council. It was •stated that the petition sought an alternative boundary to include Cheltenham area in the Aluna.watu district instead of the Rangttikei, while Milson, which was now in the Mnnawntu district, could be included in tho Palmerston North electorate. Discussing the question the Mayor said that he was disappointed in the recommendations of the Boundaries Representation Commission and regretted that community of interest had not been considered in fixing the boundary between Cheltenham and the llangitikei River. For the life of him, lie could not see why the Rangitikei lind not been left as the north-west boundary of tho new electorate. “That would have upset tho population quota,” remarked Cr A. J. Kellow. Cr G. J. Fitzpatrick said that a better arrangement could have been made, and his -idea was that the Milson settlement, now in the Mnnawntu electorate, could have been included in Palmerston and the country north, of Cheltenham included in the Alanawutu electorate instead of as it now was in the Rangitikei electorate. The settlers in the Cheltenham area wore protesting against the proposed boundary and lie suggested that the council support the petition. This step was agreed upon.
