Mr Xorman presided over a good attendance. A letter Mr Hunter M.P., was received in answer to a request for information about the proposed Makcrua-Rarigi-tanc State highway. The letter explained that the site for the bridge could not be fixed until the report on the Manawatu River control had been received from the engineer engaged by the Government on this survey. Alarm won expressed at the suggestion of the union president that the union seriously should consider political partisanship. It was considered that the union’s, strongest position lien in the strict maintenance of n non-party'attitude. A pro test wan lodged against tlic action of the Ucminion executive in drawing up a union policy on the eve of the annual conference without previous reference to branches. Support was given for ilie resolution earned at tlic last executive meeting—“ That a select commit tec be vet up to deal with miusticcs to farmers,**. Ir wrn .resolved that before further representations are made lor a reduction in rural telephone charges, the fact that a reduction is actually a justified request nhould be first established. “That any addition to the guarteed price be made introspective to the extent of the average rise in costs during the previous 12 months” was another resolution passed at the meeting.
