WRESTLING

TWO BIG ATTRACTIONS. Amateur wrestling clubs are springing up like mushrooms all over the Dominion, so tho number of entrants for the forthcoming district championships is expected to be a record. On Wednesday night the various classes ivill bo eliminated down to tho semi-finals and some of tho finals,, the rest serving as curtain-raisers on Thursday night to the big professional contest between “Lofty” Blomfield and “King Kong” Cox. In addition to being a firstclass wrestler, a big, strong man, and an undoubted entertainer, Cox knows what the paying public wants and gives it to them in good measure. If tho big American had not been a wrestler in the first flight, ho could have made good on the stage as an entertainer; ho does things in tho ring that no other professional has tried, and is known from one end of New Zealand to tho other as a wrestler with a big following. Tho executive of tho Palmerston North Wrestling Union has been besieged by requests for a chance to seo Cox, so when the opportunity came to have him in one corner, with the everpopular Blomfield in tho other, it was too good to be missed, especially as in their last encounter Blomfield was disqualified for punching Cox from outside the ring; so tho American will be able to get a bit of his own back at Palmerston North. This bout promises to be exciting and tho Palmerston North Wrestling Union had no hesitation in substituting it for tho promised “Strangler” Lewis bout, as announced from the ringside last week. Tho box plans open to-morrow morning at Collinson and Cunninghame’s and the match should attract an unusually largo crowd. KIRILINKO BEATS SPELLMAN. Per Press Association. NELSON. Aug. 12.
