LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY.
ONE-ACT PLAYS PRESENTED. Afembers of the Palmerston North Little Theatre Society presented rehearsed readings of three one-act plays in St. Andrew’s Hall on Wednesday night. The first presentation was “Fumed Oak,” a comedy in two scenes, by Noel Coward, with the following readers: —Mr S. T. Bristow (Henry Gow), Miss Ruth Walker (Doris, his wife), Aliss D. M. Reid (Elsie, the daughter), Mrs Turnbull (Mrs Rockett) ; producer, Miss Joyce Wellwood. “Children of Darkness,” by Joe Corie, a tragedy of mining life it'.id people living on the dole, provided striking contrast, the readers being: Mrs T. Ellery (Kate Smith), Miss Pamela Buchanan (Mary Smith), Aliss Jcjan Northey (Lizzie Smith), Air Dingwall (Peter Alillhr), Miss Jennifer Shirley (Granny Thomson) ; producer, Miss Coyla Cairns. Another amusing comedy, “Pie in the Oven” (J. J. Bell) concluded the presentations in happy vein, the readers being:—Air J. P. AlcDavitt (Air AtcNab), Aliss AI. Cranston (Susan), Miss Pat Lewer (Flora), Mr lan Young (Peter Duff) ; producer, Aliss Bnbette Rodgers. The opportunity was taken by Air H. G. Bagnall to offer congratulations to .the members in the cast for “Privy Council,” the play which had been placed first in the recent festival, and to voice his gratification that the society was to represent Manawatu in the North Island elimination festival at Hawera in September. -He wished the team all success.
Mrs Bristow, hon. producer to the society, returned thanks for this expression of appreciation and said that the cast would do their very best.
