DISPUTE SETTLED
N.S.W. COAL INDUSTRY.
INCREASE LN WAGES.
MINERS JUBILANT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 13, 10.45 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 13. The dispute in the coal-mining industry of New South Wales was settled last night at a conference of the parties presided over by Mr Justice Cantor. Great relief will be felt in business circles. The settlement means that the contract miners will receive an immediate increase of 10 per cent, in wages and day wage employees will receive a 5 per cent, increase. In other words, the wage concessions represent in the aggregate a slight increase on the wage cuts imposed seven years ago. The miners’ delegates are jubilant on the outcome of the conference and declare that the concessions are the most substantial received for many years.
The agreement will operate from next Monday. The terms of the agreement will be reviewed by the State conference of miners’ delegates to-day, and it is considered likely' that their acceptance will be recommended to the mass meetings of miners early next week. Union leaders stated that the cost to the owners of the concessions gained approximated £250,000 a year.
