MAORI CONCERT.

FOR CARNIVAL QUEEN.

The 6wish of the skirt and the lilt of popular Maori songs was ,heard at the Opera House, on Wednesday, when a concert was given by a Maori party from Otaki and Levin in aid of the Maori queen carnival candidate (Miss Joyce Wininta). Rev. Father A. Burning was the announcer.

The audience was an appreciative one and the items given by the juvenile artists especially were acclaimed second only to the liakas. The performers were clothed in native costume for the majority of the items/

The programme was presented as follows:—Choir. “Hinemo-a” ; Action song, “Tennra Kontou” ; solo, “Chequitor” ; long poi dance; choir, “Pakia Kia Rata” ; action song. “Tenaro Koe” ; instrumental. A. Hakaraia: double poi dance; haka; “Maoris at Home”; solo, P. Kimone: Waka Poi; choir, “Aue Ete Iwi E” ; poi solo; action song; solo and haka.
