RESEARCH WORK.
ENTOAIOLOGICAL BRANCH. AIR AIUGGERIDGE FOR NELSON. Per Press Association. NELSON. Aug. 12. In connection with the Government’s proposals to centralise the entomological research work at Nelson, it has been decided to transfer the entomological division of the Plant Bureau to Nelson. Mr J. Aluggeridge, B.Sc., associate director of the entomological division, has arrived. The entomological division will be closely associated with the Cawthron Institute. Dr. D. Aliller, of the Institute 6taff, has been appointed director of the division. Arrangements are now being made for the transfer of-the remainder of the members of Air Aluggeridge’s staff to Nelson and for their working accommodation at the Cawthron Institute.
Mr Aluggeridge, Government Entomologist, has been in charge of the white butterfly parasitic control work which has been so successful _in Hawke’s Bay and other parts of New Zealand.
Dr. H. O. Askew, agricultural chemist at the Cawthron Institute 6taff, has left on a visit to Australia for the purpose of getting in touch with research investigations dealing with mineral deficiencies and soil problems. He will spend a few days in Sydney, Canberra and Alelbourne, where he will meet prominent scientists engaged in similar activities to those conducted in the agricultural department of the Cawthron Institute. Dr. Askew will then be located at the AA’aite Institute, Adelaide, for five weeks.
