Mr A. H. Northover, stationmaster at Palmerston North, is at present on his annua] leave. The assistant stationmaster (Mr W. Cooper) is relieving him. His Honour the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, who has been presiding over the Supreme Court session at Palmerston North, left for Wellington to-day.
Air G. Gray, who has charge of the industrial work of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church in India, is visiting the Dominion on furlough. Air Giay’s headquarters are in the Punjab. Dr. and Airs H. R. Whitehead, Airs N. A. Vasey and Air A. P. Thomson, of Palmerston North, Airs T. Rowland and Air and Airs J. H. Aldersley, cl' Longburn, and Alessrs A. C. and C. Af. Dernier, of Feilding, were recent callers at New Zealand House, London,
His Honour Air Justice O’Regan, Judge of the Arbitration Court, with Alessrs W. Cecil Prime (employers’ assessor) and A. L. Alonteith (employees’ assessor;, is in Palmerston North for sittings of the Court which will probably continue until Tuesday night, when he will leave for Auckland.
The death occurred at New Plymouth yesterday, of Air George Herbert Dolby, aged 72, who until the beginning of this year was editor of the Taranaki Herald. Born at Liverpool and educated at Clifton College, Cambridge, he was assistant master of the Shrewsbury School from 1889 to 1896. Coming to New Zealand, he engaged in farming before entering journalism. Dr. R. Al. Dolby, of the staff of Alassey Agricultural College, is the only son of the late Mr Dolby. . Letters received from Canon G. Y. Woodward, vicar of Ali Saints’, by his friends in Palmerston North, show that he has been touring England, Scotland and Wales, accompanied by Airs AVoodward and Alisses Woodward. Canon and Airs Woodward had seats in AVestminster Abbey for the Coronation, and they also attended the Anzac service at St. Paul’s Cathedral. In addition to London, they have visited Edinburgh, Bristol and the Lakes district, and in the course of their tour spent a few days with Canon C. C. Harper, formerly vicar of All Saints’, who has now retired.
The death has occurred of Air Wilson Paewai, a well-known native farmer of Te Rehunga, Dannevirke, at the age of 45 years. He was regarded as being a particularly fine member of his race and his splendid leadership had won for him the love of all 771 s people. A member, of the .Mormon Church, he fiad‘been, secretary of the board governing that Church’s activities in New Zealand for some years and had been keenly interested in sport, particularly Rugby and the turf. Air Paewai collapsed while driving a motor vehicle, and failed to recover.
Dr. Louis E. C. Dapples, who died on Saturday last at Genoa, Italy, in his 69th year, was a prominent banker in which sphere he was widely known on both the Continent and in the United States of America. In 1927 he was elected president of a leading Swiss company, holding that position until his death. Dr. Dapples was a much travelled man visiting Australia in the course of a world tour several years ago, and was the recipient of many honours conferred upon him by his country, chief of which was the Diploma of Honoris Causa of the University of Lausanne. Rev. William Trotter, who for several years took an active interest in the work of the Dunedin Presbytery, passed away at his residence, St. Leonards, Dunedin, this week. Mr Trotter, who was in his seyenty-third'year, was born at Jedburgh, Scotland,... and was educated at the Free Church .College, Glasgow. In 1897 he was, ordained to the charge of the Free'Church, Bannockburn. Coming to New. Zealand in 1907, he became the minister of the Epsom Presbyterian Church ■at Auckland, where he remained for a period of three or four years. He; then went to Greymouth, and to Dunedin- near the end of 1915. Air Trotter was a member of the executive of the Theological Hall Committee, and he succeeded Dr. A/ Cameron as convener of the Dunedin Presbyterian Social Service Association, a position he held until failing health compelled him to retire,
