WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.
YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Little movement was shown in the prices of stocks and shares on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, the markets being for the most part steady. A moderate turnover was recorded, mainly in industrial and trading issues. Most of the. listed Government loans wore in demand at firm rates, but no sellers were on view. A parcel of 4 per cent, stock, 15-6-52-55, .was reported sold late on Tuesday at £lO5. There was a better inquiry for bank shares, buyers being shown for most of the listed issues. Bids, however, were mainly on the weak side. New Zealand were firm at 44s 6d, sellers 455, and the D mortgage shares sold unchanged at 30s. National of New Zealand were want: ed at 60s. Commercial of Australia were easy at 18s, sellers 18s 4d, and preference were sought at £9 7s. E., S. and A. Bank were lower at £5 10s 6d. New South Wales were quoted at £34 ss, sell'ers £35, and Union at £9 15s, sellers £lO 2s. British Tobacco were very firm at 51s, sellers asking 525. Broken Hill Proprietary were easier at 83s, sellers 83s 9d. Sellers of G. J. Coles were offering at 99t 6d. Woohvorths (N.Z:) wore avadable at £5 7s. and the rights were quoted at 80s, sellers 83s. Woolworths Ltd , weakenod to sales at £6 4s 6d ami £6 ss. McKenzies Department Stores firmed to sales at 85s 3d.
