£2OOO DAMAGES
AWARD TO INJURED WOMAN

WANGANUI, Aug. 11. The jury in the Supreme Court at Wanganui to-day after a retirement of 4i hours awarded a sum of £2OOO general damages to Ada Harriette Cuthberfson, married woman, of Castlecliffe, who lost her left arm as a result of a motor accident on the Parapara road. The evidence showed that plaintifT was riding in the cab of a wool-laden lorry, which her husband was driv ing. A car driven by defendant. Ernest John Waller, farmer, of Ivakatahi, met the lorry on a l>end, and it was alleged by plaintiff that, as a result of defendant’s car travelling too fast and on the wrong side, the lorry had to leave the metalled road and became canted, eventually topp'.eiover, and 6he was injured.
The defence was that the car was not travelling fast nor on tfce incorrect side and that defendant Lad been unaware of the accident until lon to afterwards. In addition to general damages snecial damages to be agreed upon between plaintiff and defendant were allowed This sum was stated in the Court to be £133. Plaintiff claimed £3OOO general, damages, it being pointed out she was a ' woman and the ,loss of the left arm was equivalent ,to hat of a normal person losing his right.
