SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.
FOR MISS JOAN EADE.
A very happy evening was spent in the Feilding Baptist Sunday School •Hall, when friends of Miss Joan Eade and Mr Arnold Robinson gathered at the invitation of Pastor and Mrs H. W. Page to tender them a gift evening prior to their marriage. Mr Page asked the couple to open the many parcels, quite a few being sent by well-wishers who were unable to be present. Mr Page asked Miss Eade to accept two pictures and a motto from the Sunday school teachers with whom she had been associated for some eighteen months. Both the guests of honour expressed their thanks for the presents and the messages of goodwill accompanying them. Those present were: Pastor and Mrs H. W. Page, Mr and Mrs W. A. Eade, Mr and Mrs Ron Eade, Mr and Mrs H. G. Whitehead, Mr and Mrs C. Jepson, Mr and Mrs D. Fraser, Mr and Mrs Haycock, Mesdames H. Bowater, L. Trass, M. Funnell, D. Laing, Misses Joan Eade, Elsie Bray, Louie Laing, Natalie and Joyce Fraser, Evelyn Hopkins, Elva Trass, Marie Franks, Molly Stoneley, Tliora Sandbrook, Beryl Whitehead and Ruth Eade, Messrs E. L. “Crellow,” the home of Mrs H. G. Whitehead, 174 Kimbolton Road, was the scene of a second happy function, when some forty ladies responded to Mrs Whitehead’s invitation and gathered to tender Miss Eade a surprise afternoon, the gifts on this occasion being linen or china. A cosy fire in the grate and lovely spring flowers around the spacious drawing-room made a nice setting for this enjoyable function. Solos were rendered by Miss Grant, of Christchurch, and Mrs Kendall. After the serving of afternoon tea Mrs H. W. Page asked Miss Eade to accept the gifts her friends had brought for her new home. Miss Eade expressed her thanks to all for their kindness, and specially thanked Mrs Whitehead for giving her such a happy time. She then asked her to accept a little gift of appreciation, having gained an inkling of the nature of the gathering beforehand. Those present were : Mesdames W. A. Eade, Ron Eade, E. Eade, Albert Eade. Stewart, Page, Fraser, Trass, Pengelly, Haycock, Laing, Huthnance, Kinzett, Jefferies, M. Funnell, Cox, senr., Bishop, W. Cox, E. Sandbrook, G. Firth, Stoneley, D. Johnston, Kendall, Hoker, Bowater, Gaze and Roach, Misses Joan Eade, M. and G. Shearer, C. McKenzie, Grant (Christchurch), M. Eade, E. Wratt, J. Fraser, L. Laing, and Alderson. At the close of the weekly Christian Endeavour meeting at the Baptist School Hall on Tuesday evening, Pastor Page presented Miss Eade and Mr Robinson with a silver biscuit tray, as an appreciation of their services, the former as organist and secretary, and the latter as treasurer. Thanks were expressed for this useful gift from their fellow Endeavourers.
