Mr G. C. Andrew leaves for AVellington shortly to take up a position on the technical staff of the National Broadcasting Service. Mr J. The Mayor (Air F. Purnell) presided over the monthly meeting of the Marton Borough Council. A letter was received from the AA’anganui Employers’ Association concerning the local bodies labourers’ dispute, stating that expenses in connection with assessors might be divided among the local bodies concerned.—lt was agreed to pay the 9s put as the council’s share. Building permits were issued during the month, tlie treasurer reported, for a new house, a new shed, and alterations and repairs of a total value of £5007. The statement showed receipts totalling £2BOI 12s Sd. Air Purnell intimated that tenders for the construction of the first of the • State houses in Marton would, in all probability, be called in six weeks’ time. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the works committee to institute, with the cooperation of the traffic inspector, diagonal parking for motor vehicles in Broadway, on the west side, for a trial period of six months.
