OBITUARY.
MRS V. M. GERRAND. The sympathy of a wide circle of people has been extended to Mr Victor M. Gerrand, of Palmerston North, husband of Mrs Mary McLellan Gerrand. whose death occurred suddenly on Monday morning, and also to the relatives and friends of the deceased lady. Mrs Gerrand was the eldest duaghter of the late Mrs J. Matheson, a well-known resident of Hawera, and from her youth was associated with several young. women’s activities of St. John’s Presbyterian Church in that town. She joined the clerical staff of a dairy company secretary in iaavvera, and by her ability under successive secretaries became recognised as a most capable officer in a position winch sue lieid until iier marriage 14 months ago. Mr Gerrand for several years prior to liis marriage managed the branch of his firm’s business at Hawera, where he was an enthusiastic alpinist and a member of the Hawera Rotary Club, as well as instructor to »t. John’s Young Men’s Gymnastic Club. Mrs Gerrand was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends in Hawera and by many with whom she had come in contact since establishing herself in her new home in Palmerston North. She suffered a slight illness recently, but was well enough to visit Hawera some weeks ago for the wedding of her brother. After returning to her home at Palmerston North, a more' serious illness supervened, from which her death resulted. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at the Kelvin Grove cemetery, the service at the church and the graveside being conducted by Rev. J. Hubbard, M.A., B.D.
