Mrs P. V. Burns, of Palmerston North, leaves to-morrow on a holiday visit to Dunedin.

Miss A. Harcourt, of Wellington, is visiting Palmerston North.

At the International Congress of Nurses held recently at Central Hall, Westminster, London, nearly 150 New Zealand nurses were present, including two Palmerston North nurses, Misses L. Bull and Evans, whc were invited to take part in discussions from the floor. For a week the representatives of 32 different countries, numbering some thousands, discussed matters of mutual interest to the nursing professions and enjoyed as well a round of social events. They were welcomed on the opening day by the Princess Iloyal and on the following afternoon they attended a garden party given in their honour by Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary. The winner of a competition for ■Christmas card designs, which was open to Women’s Institute members throughout New Zealand, is announced as Mrs Chapman Taylor, Hutt Valley Federation, 54 entries being received. In a programme competition 74 entries were received, Greenmeadows, Northern Hawke’s Bay, being placed first ; Whakatanej Bay of Plenty, second, and Paraparaumu, South Wellington, third. Sncrenden and Geraldine were highly commended.

The friends of Mrs G. A. Wilkinson, of Elmira Avenue, will be glad to learn that she is slowly improving from her illness. At the meeting held by the Women's Auxiliary of the Manawatu branch of the League of Nations Union yesterday it was decided, to send her a letter expressing regret that she was unable to be present. The Pan-Pacific women’s conference, attended by over 100 delegates who comprised distinguished women from many countries, has just concluded in Vancouver. Miss Elsie Andrews, of New Plymouth, was the leader of the New Zealand delegation, and together with Miss F. Taylor, of New Zealand, she will arrive back in the Dominion on September 3. Dr Georgina Sweet, well-known to New Zealand women, has. in regonition of her outstanding work in the formation of 'the PanPacific Women’s Association, been elected honorary president. With the Australian delegation and a few of the New Zealand members she will roach Auckland by the Niagara on August 23.
