HOCKEY.

HIGH SCHOOL MATCH. Playing the first inter-school hockey match for this season, yesterday, Wanganui Technical College narrowly defeated Palmerston North Boys High School by two goals to one. 11ns was only the second time that the local boys had played together as a team. The sides were as follow : —■ P.N.B.H.S. Tomlinson, Luxton, Pownall, Armstrong, Hunt. Harkness, Abraham, Wood, Boniface (captain), Palmer, ’ Grant, Wanganui.—Korneho, Ellison, Tozei, C Hughes, Robins 0 Bnen, B. Davis, Naidu (captain),.Batt, the bully-off Palmerston North quickly had Wanganui defending, but Korneho (a Wanganui representative) made a brilliant save. Wild hitting and over-keenness lost Palmerston North a goal. Naidu (also a representative) broke away, going straight through the opposition, and then pass; ing to Davis who netted. Wanganui 1, Palmerston North 0. . At this stage of the game Wanganui were definitely the better team. the visitors were soon again in the home team’s circle, hut fine defensive work by Luxton saved Wanganui from furthering their score. Play veered from one end of the field to the othet, but just before the interval Naidu netted making the score: Wanganui 2, Palmerston North 0. , ~ , , After half-time the local side played much better hockey. Armstrong centred the hall to Boniface who saw the opening, but again Ellison and Tozor saved by solid defensive work. Hunt and Harkness broke away with the hall'followed by Palmer. As the latter attempted to shoot Korneho cleared, the hall striking Palmer on the head and knocking him out. After a brief interval lie resumed playing again. From a free hit, Boniface took the hall to the circle where he sent it on to Wood who netted Palmerston North’s only goal.—Wanganui 2, Palmerston North 1. ~,,1 Palmerston North were quickly back in the visitors’ circle. Naidu saved with a long hit to Sabharwal who took plav down to Palmerston North s circle, but Tomlinson kicked the hall clear Soon after the final whistle Bounded, the final score being Wanganui 2, Palmerston North 1. Messrs V. Turner and L. Martin were the umpires.
