CHEAP DISMISSALS

BOWLERS IN FORM

CAHN’S TEAM OUT FOR 80.

DOMINION HAS SMALL LEAD

(From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the Team.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 12, 9.40 a.m. NOTTINGHAM, Aug. 11.

Twenty-three wickets fell in. a day of sensational cricket when the New Zealanders met Sir Julien Calm’s XI. The wicket was exceptionally fast and good batsmen on both sides were beaten by exceptional bowling. , Cowie and Carson bowled with such fire that the first five home wickets fell for 27 and the whole side were out before .lunch.

Sir Julien’s team included several internationals, whoso cheap dismissal reflected great credit on the bowlers. Dempster was included after the team had been first announced, but was dismissed cheaply. Against Crisp and Morkel, the South African Test players, and Mudge, an Australian, the New Zealand wickets also tumbled quickly. The on.v placers to stay long were Carson, Weir, and Wallace. New Zealand’s lead is small, but Cowie again bowled magnificently in Sir Julien’s team’s second innings. Roberts, after a month’s idleness, bowled without distress. He may play in the Test. Details:— SIR JULIEN CAHN’S XI. First Innings.

GUESTS OF SIR JULIEN CAHN. (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the Team.) NOTTINGHAM, Aug. 11. Page, Vivian, Dunning, Hadlee and Donnelly are resting for the Test. The Nottingham match is part of the festival arranged by Sir Julien Cahn to aid the funds of the Harlow Wood Hospital. There are to be three two-day matches between Sir Julien Cahn’s team and teams representing Ireland, New Zealand and Scotland at a private ground at Loughborough. A feature is the engagement of famous military bands to play at the lunch and tea intervals. The Welsh Guards will provide selections at the New Zealanders’ match, the Coldstream Guards at the match with Ireland, and the Horse Guards at the match with Scotland. The tourists are the guests of Sir Julien Cahn while they are in Nottingham. Fames strained his side during a try-out at the nets yesterday at Chelmsford. He is playing to-day against Middlesex and hopes to play in the Test. Robbins was struck by a bumper from Gover in the match "with Surrey, but he will probably be fit for the Test. • Rain fell in London last night and the weather is uncertain for the Test. Dunning was among those who took a master of arts degree on degree dav at Oxford. The New Zealanders last night received official intimation that they will return via Australia, playing matches against South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.

ENGLAND’S TEST TEAM. AUSTRALIAN COMMENT. Received August 12, 10.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 11. Mr C. G. Macartney, writing in the Morning Herald, says: “England’s team for the final Test against New Zealand should be superior but, although three changes have been made, the selectors have still not adopted fully progressive measures.” Mr Macartney says: “Tho reason for the inclusion of Matthews seems obscure. Ho is not a youth and, although he has fair performances, he has done nothing outstanding, and it seems strange that, he should have been prefererd to J. W. A. Stephenson.”

FARNES INJURED. GOVER NOW IN TEST TEAM. Received August 12, 9.45 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 11. Fames has strained his side and Gover replaces him in the third Test.
